This documentary is a creative work in itself, poetic in tone and cinematic in its visual style and approach - a collaboration between the subject and the filmmaker. Using intimate interviews and extracts from his journals and diaries has created an evocative and insightful film that will have universal appeal. Director: Pat Collins Producers: Tina Moran, Philip King Starring: Gabriel Byrne Official Selection: Galway Film Fleadh GRANNY O'GRIMMS SLEEPING BEAUTY (animated short) Granny O'Grimm, a seemingly sweet old lady, loses the plot as she tells her version of Sleeping Beauty to her terrified granddaughter. Director: Nicky Phelan Writer: Kathleen O'Rourke Producer: Darragh O'Connell Premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2008 PEACEFIRE (feature film) US Premiere Peacefire, is the first feature from writer/director Macdara Vallely. It stars John Travers, and was shot entirely on location in Craigavon, Co. Armagh in the north of Ireland in the summer of 2007. Peacefire was originally a play which Macdara wrote, directed and performedin. It was produced in New York City at Arlene’s Grocery. Peacefire met with critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004 where it was awarded a Fringe First Award for excellence in writing and was short-listed for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. Set against the backdrop of the Northern Ireland Peace Process, the film is an account of one young man's experience of crime and punishment on his local housing estate. John Travers stars as Colin, a joyriding hood who couldn't give a toss about the political situation. But a chance encounter with a ruthless detective turns him into an informer for the so-called forces of law and order and a target for retribution for his father's old mates in the IRA. In the violent upheaval that follows, Colin must struggle with the intense loyalty he feels for his mates; the need to protect his mother from her tragic past; and the political ideals of a dead father.
