Los Angeles Irish Film Festival Closing Sunday, September 27 4:00 PM Short Film Program 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: DUN LAOGHAIRE SHORTS PROGRAM The National Film School at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology (IADT)’s graduates and former students have won European Film Awards, Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, National Board of Review Awards and Irish Film & Television Awards, as well as prizes at film festivals worldwide; they have been nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, BAFTAs, Writers Guild of America Awards and British Independent Film Awards. We celebrate IADT’s 25th Anniversary by showcasing the best of its 25 years of filmmaking graduates, including Kirsten Sheridan's PATTERNS and Ken Wardrop's UNDRESSING MY MOTHER. Other live action shorts include FISHTALE by Paul Glynn, FALL INTO HALF ANGEL by Roisin Loughrey, DREAM KITCHEN by Barry Dignam, CHANGELINGS by Dee Armstrong, SOUNDPROOF by Jason Butler, and CHECK by Daniel Keane. Animated shorts include TRADING FACES by Johnny Schumannn, A HOLE IN THE HEAD by Dave Chapman, TROUBLE IN PARADISE by Shane Collins, TOGATHA by Alan O'Cuilinn, BULLOX by Paul Sheehy, BAG OF TRICKS by Paul Sheehy. The Henry Girls will perform live at the Aero Theatre at 6:30 PM. Sunday, September 27: 7:30 PM Hugh Leonard Tribute: DA (feature film) (1988) A New York playwright is summoned to Ireland to bury his father (his "Da"). While at his boyhood home, he encounters his father's spirit and relives memories both pleasant and not. The original Broadway production of "Da" by Hugh Leonard opened at the Morosco Theater in New York on May 1, 1978, ran for 697 performances and won the 1978 Tony Award for the Best Play. Barnard Hughes recreated his stage role in the movie version and the screenplay was written by Hugh Leonard who wrote the original stage play. Barnard Hughes won the 1978 Tony Award (New York City) for Actor in a Drama for "Da" for portraying the title role and recreating it in the movie version.
